Violent demonstrations and civil unrest opposing a recent constitutional referendum occur regularly. The government has issued a mandatory curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. beginning on October 15. The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in The Union of the Comoros as U.S. government employees must obtain special authorization to travel outside of Moroni. Island of Anjouan - Level 3: Reconsider Travel Civil unrest on Anjouan has taken the form of violent protests, some resulting in injuries and deaths. In July 2018, Comoros held a referendum which resulted in a new constitution. Opposition groups in Anjouan are contesting the validity of the new constitution.
