US Passport Office Locations
A passport allows you to travel in and out of the United States. When traveling outside the US, your passport is an import travel document. It not only allows you to get back into the United States, but it also ensures that you can get help at a US Embassy or Consulate if there are any problems while traveling abroad.
For example, if you run into any legal problems or natural or man-made disaster, your passport allows you to visit the US embassy or consulate for assistance. In general, if you are a US citizen, you should obtain a passport as soon as possible. In order to obtain a US passport, you need to contact your local passport office location and request a new passport. To find a location, select your state below.
Difference between visa and passport
It is important to know the difference between a passport and visa. For a passport, it is issued to a country's citizen for international travel and identification. It is used also used to regain entry back into your country of citizenship. Passports include a photo, name, gender, birth date and physical characteristics.
A visa is an endorsement placed within a passport that grants the holder official permission to enter, leave or stay in a country for a specific time period. The most common types of visas are tourists, students, transit and work visas. Depending on where you are traveling, a visa can be valid for single or multiple visits.
In some cases, a visa will require an application to be submitted prior to entering the country and other visas are granted upon entering the country. In some countries, it is required to give an interview or medical screening prior to applying for a visa.
